For some reasons unknown to even me myself, I found myself surfing for qipao designs in April 2011. Googling images on "qipao" designs brought me to this ad.
RM680 for a custom made qipao sounds like a bargain to me. So I sent an enquiry to the email stated at the bottom of the advertisement with zero expectation, only to find a reply to my enquiry within half an hour later.
The next thing I know, I made an appointment with Kathy Foo, the owner of I am a Bride at her shop in Kepong (she had since relocated to Publika, Solaris Dutamas). I know a genuine seller when I see one. And she was definitely genuine, helpful and kind. I could tell she was one of those who just started out on her own and looking for a big break.
After our first meeting, I went back looking for more qipao designs as references and communicated with Kathy via email on the various designs that I was interested in making. I recalled that I was travelling then too and sent her some pics of qipao designs I took from the wax museum in Hong Kong. She must think I am a crazy bride.
Before I knew it, I confirmed a qipao design just before 31 May 2011 to make the promotion period.
This is the qipao design I chose in the end, I thought it was simple, nice and not too complicated to replicate. But more importantly, I loved the silhouette.
After that, it took about 2 months before the first fitting in August 2011 and I loved it!! It hugged every inch of my curve (not that I had much but it enhanced the little that I had) and fitted me very nicely.
After my first experience with her (and after he formally proposed) I decided to make my wedding and evening gown with her too.
My wedding gown is a combination of "Pronovias Astarte" and another gown by "Monique Lhuillier".
My evening gown is a replica of the "Pronovias Andros"
