Bridal Shops

As you can read from here, I am not a fan of bridal shops. I've never stepped into one of those in SS2. While that is my preference, I can understand why some prefer to engage them because of convenience and cost.

The Pros of engaging Bridal Shops

Convenience You get into a shop and you will be greeted by Sales Assistants ("SA") who will eagerly serve you and show you the multiple packages that they have to offer depending on your budget. They will ALWAYS show you the kind of albums that comes with each package. I believe some of the packages can be as thorough as to include your bridal bouquets and car decorations in them. And if you want to add anything into your package, lets say a videographer, they will quote you on the spot on the additional costs for the addition. So you practically deal with one person from one single shop that will engage your MUA, PG, VG, Florists etc for you. The gowns available in the shop are also in abundance so you can take your time to try them on until you find the dress/gown that you like. They also have inhouse seamstress so you don't have to worry about finding one that fits your body.

Cheap I've seen flyers of packages starting from RM1,888 and it basically offers everything you need for a wedding already. If you can afford it, for RM5,000, you can get a pretty decent and extensive all in one package from these Bridal Shops. That's a STEAL !!!

The Cons of engaging Bridal Shops

Susbtandard quality Because they are cheap, don't expect great quality photos/albums/products/makeup artist/photographer. The samples that SA showed you before you engage them are their BEST sample i.e. good looking bride and groom who are natural and photogenic. Please do not expect the same result because no two person are exactly the same.

The gowns available for you to choose from are worn and torn due to wear and tear by many other brides before you. If you want to get newer and better gowns, they make you pay extra. And for the ULTIMATE gown problem that no bride would wanna endure - read here and here. Enough said.

The albums they produce are the same as everybody else who engage them. So don't expect yours to look any different. Also, they tend of have some english poems and quotes printed randomly in the album and most often than not, the english is horrendous !!! Imagine having your wedding album with bad english scribbled all over it !

I've heard of photographers who make the couples replicate the poses of other couples in the sample albums and call it a day. A BIG NO NO !!!

I've seen so many brides being made up with cakey foundation and star dusted lashes with coloured lenses for photoshoot. Lets just say - they don't look the same anymore after that !

OH ! And about the bouquets and car decorations - do not expect your flowers to be fresh and do not expect your car to not look 'jeng'.

Substandard service The SAs are salesman living on commission. Before payment is made, they will go all out to serve you on their hands and knees and win you over with their sweetest smile. After payment of non refundable deposit, please do not expect them to be the same. Don't expect them to pick up your calls or return your calls because they rather spend their time winning over other new couples who walked into the shop. For some horror stories, you can read here and here and here and here

Notwithstanding the above, I can round up a few bridal shops that are worthy of visits:

(1) Wedding Isle

I've mentioned about Wedding Isle here a few times. I've seen their gowns and they are good. Not the usual ones you see in SS2 areas I was told by my friend, which is a good thin). Wedding Isle was initiated by a few makeup artists and that is why their MUA services are quite highly recommended. One of the photographer that they work with is Andrew from Glance who's work speaks for itself.

(2) Armadale

Armadale used to operate in Damansara Heights and recently moved to Damansara Perdana. If my memories serves me right, it is run by a married couple. I believe they also custom make gowns but not too sure if they still offer that service today. The photographers that they work with are no other than Edwin Tan and Covan Loh - Both highly recommended.

(3) Valerie Fan

Valerie Fan is a gown designer who expanded into a full fledged shop located in SS2. She now offers more or less the kind of packages that you can find in most bridal shops but her focus is still on her gowns which you can rent or custom make. The photographers that she works with are Joshua Koh from InLight Photos and the infamous Daren Chong, both protege of Jenny Sun.
